Dr. Akoto earned her Bachelor of Science in Human Biology from Michigan State University. She then attended Wright State University Boonshoft School of Medicine where she completed a dual degree program, earning both her Doctor of Medicine and Master of Public Health degrees. After graduating in 2020, she began her residency in Obstetrics and Gynecology at Christiana Care, finishing in 2024. She is excited to bring her skills and passion for women’s health to WLW!
Dr. Akoto is dedicated to providing comprehensive care and supporting women throughout all stages of life, from adolescence to menopause. She is particularly interested in preventative medicine and reducing health care disparities. Some of her clinical interests include cervical cancer screening, contraception and family planning, infertility workup, pregnancy loss, fibroid treatment (both surgical and non-surgical), treating abnormal uterine bleeding, and delivering excellent care during pregnancy and postpartum. She also enjoys helping women as they transition through perimenopause and menopause. While Dr. Akoto enjoys surgical procedures, she is most fulfilled from building relationships with her patients and being present during the significant moments in their lives. Her goal is to support patients in achieving health and wellness throughout their lifespans.
Outside of work, Dr. Akoto enjoys spending time with her friends and family. She and her husband live in Middletown, DE with their two-year-old son. She enjoys traveling, especially exploring new countries and visiting family in Ghana. In her free time, she also enjoys attending sports events, watching movies, trying out new local restaurants, cooking, exercising, and spending time outdoors.
3. Add bio for Lauren Bailey:
Lauren Bailey PA-C, a Chester County PA native, completed her undergraduate studies at Greensboro
College in North Carolina. Lauren went on to complete her Master’s in Physician Assistant Studies at
Shenandoah University. Lauren had an immediate interest in helping women stay healthy during her
OBGYN clinical rotation only confirmed she was meant to work in women’s health.
After graduation from PA school in 2010, Lauren joined a GYN office in Winchester, VA for a year before
moving to Montana to join an OBGYN practice. She lived in Montana for three years and, although she
loved being in a beautiful state with some of the most gorgeous national parks, the pull to come back to
the East Coast to be closer to family was something she could no longer ignore.
Lauren made her way back to the East Coast and worked at Christiana Care as a PA-C for the hospital
OBGYN group. She assisted in the operating room with c-sections, hysterectomies, and other
procedures. Out of the operating room, she worked with postpartum patients, and evaluated OB triage
emergency patients. She met Dr. Apel and Dr. Smith during her time at Christiana Care and enjoyed
working with them. When Lauren was pregnant, she was cared for by Dr. Apel and Dr. Smith and
absolutely loved the experience of care she had at Women Living Well.
Lauren officially joined the Women Living Well team in Fall of 2020. Her favorite parts of OBGYN care
are establishing and building relationships with patients, aiding in women’s health and wellness, and
having the opportunity to work directly with some of the best physicians in the area.
When Lauren is not working, she loves to spend time outdoors with her husband Patrick and two
children.

Katie Rubin is a proud University of Delaware graduate, where she earned her Bachelor’s and Master of Science in Nursing. Katie went on to earn her Board Certification as a Family Nurse Practitioner. She had worked with Christiana Care for 16 years working as a nurse and then a Family Nurse Practitioner in Primary Care.
When Katie is not providing care for our community, she spends time with her family. She and her husband, Brian, enjoy spending time with their 2 daughters and their dog, Daffodil. Katie also enjoys spending her spare time in her garden.
Katie is our first PCP to provide comprehensive medical care. She is available for Preventive Yearly visits, Well-woman visits, anxiety/depression/mood issues, hypertension, diabetes, gynecological problems, UTIs, and breast issues…just to name a few.
