What Is Gynecologic Surgery?
Gynecologic surgery refers to procedures involving the female reproductive system, including the uterus, cervix, ovaries, fallopian tubes, vagina, and vulva. In some cases, it may also involve treatments for bladder or pelvic floor conditions.
Your provider may recommend surgery to treat:
- Uterine fibroids
- Ovarian cysts
- Endometriosis
- Pelvic inflammatory disease
- Uterine or vaginal prolapse
- Abnormal or heavy bleeding
- Female reproductive cancers
At Lifeline Medical Associates, providers have access to advanced diagnostic tools, experienced specialists, and minimally invasive surgical techniques that reduce downtime and promote faster healing.
Minimally Invasive SurgeryCommon Types of Gynecologic Surgery
Hysterectomy
A hysterectomy is the surgical removal of the uterus. It may be recommended if you have fibroids, heavy bleeding, chronic pain, or cancer.
- Total hysterectomy removes the uterus and cervix.
- Supracervical hysterectomy removes only the upper part of the uterus.
Myomectomy
This procedure removes fibroids from the uterus while preserving the uterus itself. It’s a good choice for women who wish to maintain fertility.
Colposcopy
If your Pap smear or pelvic exam shows abnormal cells, a colposcopy allows your provider to examine your cervix and vagina in more detail and take biopsies if needed.
Bladder Support Surgery
Designed to correct bladder prolapse or incontinence, these procedures support the bladder and strengthen pelvic muscles. A cystoscopy may be used to view the bladder and urethra for diagnosis or during treatment.
Pelvic Floor HealthCancer-Related Surgery
For women diagnosed with cervical, ovarian, or uterine cancer, surgery may be part of your treatment plan. Your provider will coordinate care with oncologic specialists to ensure you receive the most appropriate and effective treatment.
Evidence-Based Surgical Care
Not every gynecologic concern requires surgery. We take a conservative, evidence-based approach—exploring nonsurgical options when possible and helping you weigh the risks and benefits when surgery is recommended.
If surgery is the best path forward, we’ll walk you through what to expect before, during, and after the procedure. Our goal is to minimize disruption to your life and maximize your long-term health outcomes.
