As a woman, you may need surgery on the female pelvic region at some point in your life. Gynecology surgery can include procedures on the cervix, uterus, ovaries, vagina, vulva, or fallopian tubes. You might also have bladder issues that can be resolved with gynecology surgery.

Types of gynecology surgeries

You may need surgery for fibroids, ovarian cysts, pelvic inflammatory disease, uterine prolapse, endometriosis, or abnormal bleeding. Some of the types of surgery your physician may recommend include:

  • Hysterectomy: A surgery to remove the uterus, a hysterectomy might be recommended for you if you have fibroid-related bleeding or pressure. A total hysterectomy removes the entire uterus, including the cervix. Removal of the upper part of the uterus is called a supra-cervical hysterectomy.
  • Myomectomy: This surgery removes uterine fibroids that may be causing you problems, but it keeps the uterus itself intact.
  • Colposcopy:If your physician discovers issues, such as abnormal cells, during your pelvic exam or Pap test, they may recommend this procedure which will enable them to see changes in your vaginal and cervical tissues.
  • Bladder support surgery: This type of surgery is performed to improve support for the bladder and for the valve mechanism at the bladder neck. A cystoscopy will enable the surgeon to see inside your urinary tract to check for stones, growths, or other issues.

Gynecology surgery may also be recommended for treatment of cancers that affect women, including ovarian, uterine, and cervical cancer.

I’m very satisfied with the care I receive from Dr Pierce. The last visit however I spent almost an hour waiting in the waiting room before going in for my 9:40 am ultra sound. I got there at 9:30 and wasn’t taken for my ultra sound of my ovarian cysts until almost 10:30. If I were late by almost an hour I’m sure I’d have had to make another appointment. I can understand a 15 to 20 min delay but not almost an hour. That was a bit excessive. Thankfully I didn’t have any other appointments that day.

Check in was easy, I was called in shortly after I arrived and provided information to the nurse. She was very friendly and explained new questions they were required to ask. After the nurse left, I waited for the doctor for 15 minutes. The doctor briefly discussed a biopsy I had the last year and advised me to follow-up with the breast surgeon. She wrote me a script for my annual mammogram.

Dr. Lublin is wonderful, however the scheduling of patients is not done well. My appointment was for 10:00 am, I was not called back by the nurse till after 10:30am, and did not complete by visit till after 11:15am. The patients time is just as valuable as Dr. Lublin's. Please schedule appointments which really reflect the amount of time necessary for the Dr. and patient to meet so the schedule is realistic and the Dr. is not rushed.
